Celebrating life's milestones

For all sacraments, please contact the parish office on +353 (0)45 524064.

  • Baptism

Baptisms are celebrated in the parish throughout the year. Parents are asked to contact the parish office to arrange a date and attend a short preparation meeting.

  • First Holy Communion

Children prepare for First Holy Communion through our local primary schools, with the support of the parish and their families.

  • Confirmation

Confirmation is usually celebrated in sixth class. Preparation takes place in school and through parish-based events during the year.

  • Getting Married

Congratulations! Please contact the parish office at least six months before your wedding to book the church and begin pre-marriage preparation.

  • Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on request and at special penitential services during Advent and Lent.

  • Anointing of the Sick

If you or a loved one is ill, in hospital or housebound, please let us know so a priest can visit and bring Holy Communion.

  • Funerals

At a time of loss, contact your funeral director, who will liaise with the parish. Fr Bill will meet the family to help plan the funeral liturgy.

Parish Life

A community of faith

A bronze sculpture of a crowd of migrants and refugees from many eras standing close together on a boat, in front of the altar

Angels Unawares

A replica of Timothy Schmalz’s sculpture, whose original stands in St Peter’s Square, reminds us of the call to welcome the stranger. “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)

Cemetery Mass

Each year the parish gathers, rain or shine, to celebrate Mass in the cemetery and pray for our loved ones who have gone before us.

Our Lady’s Shrine

Our church is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. Her shrine is a quiet place to light a candle and pray at any time the church is open.

Recently Deceased

We remember in our prayers all those from the parish who have died recently, and we offer our sympathy to their families. Funeral arrangements are announced at Mass and published on RIP.ie.

Our History

Generations of faith in Rathangan

Rathangan has been home to a praying community for centuries. These photographs from the parish archive capture the procession from the old church and the first Mass celebrated in our present Church of the Assumption and St. Patrick.

Your generosity keeps our church open, our livestream running and our community thriving. Thank you for your support.
